Recently, the friction stir solid-state additive manufacturing equipment jointly developed by Aerospace Engineering Equipment (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. (AEE) and the Macao Institute for Development and Quality (IDQ) has been successfully delivered. Adopting a gantry structure, the equipment is equipped with fully sealed air-conditioned electrical cabinet, embedded operating console, movable electronic handwheel, as well as over-travel alarm and overload protection functions. As China’s first research-type friction stir solid-state additive manufacturing device, it is also the first equipment of its kind introduced by University of Science and Technology Beijing. It will be applied to fundamental scientific research and exploration of cutting-edge technologies in relevant laboratories.

Featuring a modular design, the equipment can be fitted with both conventional mechanical tool holders and intelligent tool holders capable of data acquisition and intelligent closed-loop control. Using 10mm alloy rods as raw materials, it supports solid-state additive manufacturing of light alloys, surface modification, coating preparation and new material development. It realizes solid-state processing of non-ferrous metals, ferrous metals, dissimilar alloys and superalloys, which greatly reduces material costs and improves energy efficiency.

Aerospace Engineering Equipment (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. is a national-level "Specialized, Refined, Unique and Innovative" Little Giant Enterprise. The Macao Institute for Development and Quality is a non-profit public institution of the Macao SAR government, dedicated to interdisciplinary cutting-edge technological R&D. During the development phase, the two teams collaborated intensively and completed customized design to meet client requirements. They have jointly obtained more than 30 patents related to friction stir solid-state additive manufacturing and published over ten SCI papers.
